JOB DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES Camp Kiawah consists of three unique camp experiences for our guests including: Camp Kiawah, Adventure Camp, and Camp Xtreme.
Camp Kiawah counselors are responsible for providing exciting and memorable experiences in each of our three camps.
They will provide exceptional customer service and are expected to work camp everyday while implementing their own fun and creative activities into our Camp program.
Camp Counselors will be expected to attend weekly staff meetings and will also be evaluated on their performance mid way through the summer.
Camp Counselors must meet all the standards of Kiawah Island Golf Resort’s Employee Handbook, Mission Statement and Core Values.
A Camp Counselor’s average work week is 30-42 hours with occasional weekend work.
Kamp Kiawah: Kamp Kiawah is a program for kids 3-7 years old.
It is a program children attend to make friends and memories of their own, for many guests Kamp Kiawah is a tradition in their summer vacation.
Camper’s also love the relationships they build with their camp counselors.
Adventure Camp: Adventure camp is for tweens and early teens ages 8-14.
Counselors will lead campers in outdoor activities such as stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, surfing and archery! Camp Xtreme: Camp Xtreme is a camp all about fun competition! Counselors will lead campers ages 8-13 in unique teambuilding and sports related activities.
Kiawah Camps are held: Memorial Day -Labor Day Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:00pm Tuesday and Thursday 6pm-9pm Must be able to lift a minimum of 30lbs.
Capable of working consecutive hours without sitting.
Ability to bend, lift and carry equipment.
80% - stands during shift.
20% sitting for snack, craft & lunch.
70% - reaching, bending and lifting.
100% - working outdoors in extreme heat and humidity.
Must be comfortable swimming with children.
Orientation Week: A week designed to introduce Camp Counselors to all areas of the Island, not just where they will be working.
This week consists of the following: • Kiawah Island Golf Resort’s resort wide orientation focusing on resort standards, core values and mission statement • Walking/driving tour of the entire island with emphasis on recreation’s Night Heron Park & Kamp Kiawah • Teambuilding activities to meet co-workers, supervisors, and managers of the Recreation Department • Training of a Camp Counselors responsibilities and expectations Schedule: Camp Counselors are expected to work the below shifts throughout the summer • 8am – 4:30pm • 1pm-9:30pm • Weekend when corporate groups are in house Additional Opportunity Group, Teen and Family Programs: Kiawah Island Golf resort offers many unique group, teen and family programs throughout the week.
These programs range from corporate groups, family crafts, poolside games, bingo and even a family festival.
Throughout the summer, Camp Counselors will spend time helping out with these programs, however they will not be their main responsibility.
Turtles’ Nest Art Studio: TNAS is our indoor recreation area for guests to explore their artistic side while taking shelter from the heat or the rain.
It is a unique facility appreciated and revisited by many guests.
Counselors will have the opportunity to: • Help with open studio hours while interacting with guests of all ages Babysitting: Camp Counselors are able to earn extra money by babysitting for guests on the island.
Babysitting rates start at $22 per hour.
PAY/MEALS/UNIFORMS/HOUSING Wage: Camp Counselors receive $10.
00/ hour, along with gratuity when working camp.
Gratuity is always distributed equally between what Camp Counselors worked and for how many hours.
Meals: When working Camp, Camp Counselors are provided lunch or dinner and snacks free of charge.
All meals must be eaten with the campers.
Uniforms: • Camp Kiawah T-shirts * • Water shorts* • Bathing suit/swim trunks • Tennis shoes or sandals with a back strap * Items provided Appearance: • Hair must be a natural color and conservatively cut.
• Hats may be worn if they have the Kiawah Island Golf Resort logo • Visible tattoos need to be cover during Corporate events • KIAWAH ISLAND GOLF RESORT IS A DRUG FREE WORK PLACE Employee Housing: As a benefit to seasonal staff, KIGR offers optional employee housing.
Due to the resort’s location, the housing options are limited and all are located off-island (approximately 25 miles) and requires residents to have personal transportation in order to get to/from work.
Work transportation (to/from work ONLY) may be able to be arranged for a minor additional cost made via payroll deduction.
All housing is shared - with two (2) residents per bedroom.
Details: • Housing is offered on a “first come, first serve” basis and requires a $300 security deposit to be remitted 60 days prior to moving in.
If job offer is received within the 60-day window, the deposit is required to be provided ASAP to ensure space is reserved.
• Cost for housing varies based on the apartment complex, size of the unit and number of residents living within the apartment.
Average rate is $150 - $165 / week (or $300-$330 per paycheck, as we are paid bi-weekly.
) • Payment for housing is made bi-weekly via payroll deduction.
• Payment includes accommodation, furniture rental and basic utilities (Internet and cable is tenant responsibility).
• Shared housing residents will be assigned roommates at the Resort’s discretion.
